Single Pull-Out Caravan Step
This is a manual pull-out step for caravans, motorhomes and campers. It bolts to the chassis under your door and stays on the van. Pull it out by hand or with your boot when you arrive. Fold it up before you tow. Nothing to carry, store or leave behind at camp.
The tread is aluminium, the brackets are powder-coated steel, and the whole unit is rated to 200kg static load. It suits new installs and is a common replacement for factory steps that have seized, sagged or started rattling.
Main features
- 540mm wide tread – wider than most portable steps, with room for both feet
- Rubber grip strips – three full-length strips keep your boots planted in the wet
- 200kg static load rating – takes an adult plus a full armload with margin
- Spring-assisted action – two strong springs hold it firmly open or closed
- Slotted mounting brackets – suit 12mm bolts with side-to-side adjustment
- Rust resistant – aluminium tread and powder-coated steel hardware
Why these features matter
A fixed step is safer than a loose stool. It cannot tip, slide or sink into soft ground, and it is always in the same spot when you step out at night. The wide tread and grip strips matter most on wet mornings and uneven sites.
The springs do two jobs. Open, they stop the step sagging underfoot. Closed, they hold it tight against the van so it stays quiet on corrugated roads. A rattling step is usually a worn-out step — this one stays put.
The slotted brackets save you drilling. If you are replacing an old step, the slots often line up with the bolt holes already in your chassis.
Applications
- Single-door caravans and pop-tops
- Motorhomes and campervans
- Camper trailers and hybrid vans
- Horse floats with living quarters
- Direct replacement for worn factory pull-out steps
Installation
The step mounts to a flat, solid section of chassis under the door. Folded, it needs 373mm of depth and 161mm of height. Check your measurements against the engineering drawing in the photos before you order.
Hold the folded step centred under the doorway, mark the fixing points through the slots, then bolt it on using the supplied mounting bolts. Open and close it a few times, load it gradually, and re-check the bolts after your first trip. Most handy owners fit it in about half an hour, or any caravan repairer can do it for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this step fit my caravan?
It fits most Australian vans with a flat mounting point under the door. The slotted holes take 12mm bolts and let you adjust the step side to side. Check your space against the engineering drawing in the photos — the folded step needs 373mm of depth and 161mm of height.
How much weight can it hold?
Up to 200kg static load.
Is it manual or electric?
Manual. Two springs do the work. There is no motor and no wiring, so there is nothing to drain your battery or break down.
Does it come with mounting bolts?
Yes. The step arrives fully assembled with mounting bolts included, so you can fit it straight out of the box.
Can I leave it on the van while towing?
Yes. Fold it up before you drive off and the springs hold it flat against the van. Just make it part of your hitch-up check, like your aerial and hatches.
Will it rust?
The tread is aluminium, which does not rust. The steel brackets are powder-coated. A quick rinse after beach trips will keep it looking good.
Does it rattle when folded?
No. The same springs that hold it open hold it shut. A rattling step is usually a worn-out step — and a common reason people buy this one.
Can it replace my old caravan step?
In most cases, yes. Measure the bolt centres on your old step and compare them with the engineering drawing. The slotted holes often line up with existing chassis holes, so you may not need to drill at all.
How far does it stick out when open?
The tread extends 316mm from the van, with an overall open depth of 550mm. The tread sits 149mm below the mounting point.
What tools do I need to fit it?
A socket set, a tape measure, and a drill if you cannot reuse existing holes. Bolts are supplied. It takes about half an hour, or any caravan repairer can fit it for you.
Do I need a single or a double step?
If the drop from your door to the ground is much over 400mm, a double step makes the climb easier — see our Double Pull-Out Caravan Step. For lower vans and pop-tops, a single step is all you need.
How heavy is it?
Approximately 4.5kg, so it makes no real difference to your ball weight.
