Portable Folding Caravan Step
If your caravan door sits a bit high off the ground, this gives you an extra step without having to bolt anything permanently to the van. It's a freestanding step that sits on the ground beside the door, and when you're finished the four legs fold up flat so you can pack it away.
The platform is a good size at 480mm wide and 300mm deep, so there's plenty of room to plant a full foot on the way in or out. Non-slip strips run across the top for grip, and the four legs have solid rubber feet to help it sit steady. It's built from steel and carries a 200kg static load, so it takes an adult plus whatever you're carrying through the door.
Folds down small for storage
This is where a portable step earns its keep. Set up, it stands about 220mm high. Fold the legs and it packs down to roughly 80mm. At that height it can be tucked into a tunnel boot, under a bed or into another storage space, depending on your van. If you're short on room in the van, that flat-pack size makes it a lot easier to live with than a fixed-height step.
Move it wherever you need it
Because nothing is mounted to the caravan, you can pick it up and use it anywhere. Beside the caravan door, at the other side of the van, at a mate's place, or around the house and shed when you need a sturdy step. At around 4.5kg it's easy enough to carry out and set up in a few seconds.
Setting it up
Open the legs out until they lock into position and stand it on firm, reasonably level ground. Make sure all four feet are sitting properly before you put your weight on it. The rubber feet help it grip and stay put, but like any freestanding step it needs a solid, level spot to work well. It isn't meant for soft sand or loose, uneven ground.
Portable or permanent?
A portable step suits people who don't want to fit anything to the van, or who want a step they can move around. If you'd rather have a step that's always there and folds up under the van, have a look at our bolt-on single pull-out caravan step or the double pull-out step for a taller doorway. A grab handle beside the door pairs well with any of them for a steadier climb.

Does it need to be mounted to the caravan?

If you'd prefer the permanent option, see our double pull-out step.
